[ul]I'm sure you know the story. The Rage Virus swept through the UK killing everyone and everything. It spread like a plague. We watched the reports, lived the horrors with those people as if we were there living it too. More than a thousand miles away, we did what we could to help those in England. Our military began to prepare and, one by one, went to their aid.
Still, we watched the horror on your screens, vehement that nothing like this could ever be allowed to happen in the United States...
Soon reports from the UK ceased, but not before word got out that infection had reached France and Africa. Still we believed ourselves safe. A thousand miles of ocean seperated us from their world. It would never reach our shores.
I remember when the first report came. A man had just climbed off a plane at La Guardia and killed someone on the terminal. Ripped him apart with his own hands, one frightened reporter said. A lunatic everyone agreed. The police would straighten it out.
Fast forward two hours and people were being shot down in the streets. Massed murderers, the media tried to cover up. One death after another and the city was put on red alert. Stay inside your homes. Don't travel after night. Ha! This was Manhattan--the city that never slept. A few deaths wouldn't keep anyone in their homes.
But soon the sounds of car horns were replaced by screams, the tv reports where replaced by static. The radio reporters told everyone to evacuate the city, but by then it was too late. The infection was on the sidewalk outside of your home. Blood splattered the cement and death was right there in your face.
And then the city went dark and the only thing you could do was stay inside and pray.
This couldn't be happening...
But it was.
This is where Turn off the Lights begins; a day after the initial infection. A mass quarantine of northen Manhattan has already be issued and executed. The city was gased and burned without pause. The president has yet to order a quarantine of the south, but that order will soon come.
Soldiers are currently taking out the infected on foot. They are shooting anything with a pulse. Fear drives them on. No longer are they rescuing civilians, but killing them on site for fear of the infection spreading.
A group of survivors, who were abandoned by the military inside a hospital east of Central Park, must now make it out of Manhattan alive. Will they make it?
